Assisted Stretching

Eliminate pain and reduce the risk of future injury with targeted stretching treatments.

What is Assisted Stretching?

Stretching is a crucial part of any physical therapy treatment. By alleviating tension in muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints, we’re able to address a wide range of issues.

Stretching may seem (and is) a very simple, yet often underestimated exercise. The proper stretching and stretching frequencies can reduce tension, calm knots and nerve flare ups, strengthen important muscles, and prevent further damage and pain.

Based on your particular condition, injury, and physical goals, your physical therapist will work with you to determine the proper stretching exercises to include in your overall care plan. By utilizing assisted stretching, you’ll be able to achieve a deeper stretch in less time, without risk of further injury or strain on the targeted area.

Assisted Stretching & Your Complete Treatment Plan

Stretching is a critical component of physical therapy care, and it’s timing and depth is just as important. Before rushing into stretching exercises, it’s crucial to understand the extent of your injury and root of pain in order to prevent further aggravating muscles.

By focusing on the right stretches for your injury or condition, as well as the proper form for the stretch, the frequency it should be performed, and knowing when to stop, our team at Physical Therapy & Sports medicine can help reduce physical pain and get you on the road to recovery.

Stretching Techniques & Focus Areas

Every area of the body can benefit from proper stretching. Your condition, pain level, and root injury will determine what stretches are appropriate when and how often.

The most common areas where stretching can be a valuable part of physical therapy care include but are not limited to:

Neck
Shoulders
❖ Upper back
❖ Lower back
❖ Chest

Hips
❖ IT bands
❖ Hamstrings
❖ Calves

Knees
Ankles
❖ Feet
❖ Biceps

❖ Wrists
❖ Forearms
❖ Glutes
❖ Groin

Not every stretch designed to target one of these areas will be appropriate for you. Your physical therapist will evaluate your condition to develop a plan that will move you through the right stretches at the right pace.
