Functional Exercise

Strengthen your body to meet daily demands through properly paced functional exercise treatment.

Functional Exercise & Physical Therapy

Functional exercise treatment lies at the root of physical therapy for a major reason: these exercises mimic the motions, movements, and functions you make throughout your daily life. By practicing these movements with proper body or additional weight and with the proper form, you can not only help heal from existing conditions and pain but prevent future injury as well.

Our team of dedicated physical therapists will work with you to determine the proper set and progression of functional exercises for your unique condition. Whether you suffer from a single injury or multiple areas of pain, we’ll incorporate only the functions your entire body can support and build strength around.

“Back To Doing The Things I Love Quickly”

“Excellent service and knowledgeable staff. Everyone was warm and welcoming. Went in for a shoulder injury and now it feels better than it has in years!!! These guys took the time to get to know me and create a physical training regimen to get me back to doing the things I love to do, quickly! They also have great hours and can get you in fast! Don't waste your time waiting around for appointments with trainers that are overbooked! There's no clock running here. You get the time and attention you need! I can't recommend them enough!"

Functional Exercise & Your Complete Treatment Plan

Functional exercises are incorporated into nearly every physical therapy care plan in order to reduce pain and strengthen the body for future activity and mobility. However, they are rarely used as a singular treatment. By combining multiple modalities into your plan, we’re able to address multiple areas of bodily function in a single appointment.

While every injury and body is unique, your total care plan may include treatments in addition to functional exercise such as:

Stretching
Strength training
Massage therapy
Dry needling
Astym Treatment
Vibration therapy
❖ Hot / cold applications
Preventive care

Functional Exercise Techniques & Focus Areas

Functional exercises can be applied to every area of your body. While your treatment plan at Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine may focus on only one or two areas at a time, functional exercises are designed to teach each area of your body how to use the best muscles possible for routine activities in your daily life.

Of course, not every functional exercise will be appropriate for your goals, stage of life, lifestyle, existing injuries, and pain level. Your therapist will work with you one-on-one to determine the best set of beginning and progressive exercises to give your body the very best care.
