Astym Treatment

Specialized astym (augmented soft tissue mobilization) therapy for injury and mobility improvement.

Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Astym Treatment

What do we love most about astym? Astym therapy is designed to stimulate the body’s natural healing response through topical instrument application. Rather than relying on external solutions to activate your internal healing abilities, astym therapy helps your body remodel and even reabsorb scar tissue, in addition to regenerating tendons that have been damaged and degenerated over time or due to injury.

How? Small, non-invasive physical therapy tools are applied to the skin covering unhealthy or damaged muscle tissue. By using varying pressure and techniques, our physical therapists are able to identify and treat muscles, tendons, and ligaments that are causing pain and restricting your mobility.

This non-invasive therapy works quickly and consistently without medication, needles, or surgical intervention. A major win-win in our books. Most of our patients don’t even have to interrupt their normal work and exercise routines. We’re proud to be one of the few astym-certified clinics in Utah that have the licensed ability to perform this treatment.

Astym & Your Comprehensive Physical Therapy Plan

Only by meeting you and evaluating your current state, physical goals, pain level, and previous injury can your physical therapist determine if astym therapy is appropriate for you.

Because of the nature of astym treatment, it’s best that patients receiving this therapy are able to continue performing normal functions throughout the duration of their care plan. Benefits are most pronounced when there’s no disruption to work, athletic activities, or daily routines, as tissues become stronger faster through the combination of these activities and astym treatment together.

Like most physical therapy treatments, astym is typically one of multiple treatment methods included in your total care plan. For many patients, it’s proven to be effective even after failed attempts at other methodologies with different providers because of its focused approach to targeting underlying soft tissue problems. When properly administered, astym treatment helps regenerate soft tissues in muscles and tendons, reduce painful scar tissue, and strengthen your body’s ability to handle more stress without injury or continued damage.
